Schrödinger has a long-standing partnership with BMS, which has routinely used its industry-leading computational platform.
August 5, 2026
By: Patrick Lavery
Editor’s Take: AI collaborations can empower scientists to explore deeper possibilities, select molecules with better confidence, and speed discovery decisions.
Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) reached a strategic agreement to deploy Schrödinger’s agentic AI co-scientist, Bunsen, in its research organization.
The two parties already have an existing partnership, under which BMS has often used Schrödinger’s computational platform, an industry leader.
Now, that platform will empower BMS scientists to explore further possibilities—picking molecules with greater confidence, or speeding discovery decisions.
Schrödinger plans to work with these BMS scientists to develop novel functionality within Bunsen, in concert with those computational technologies. This can lead to larger scale chemical exploration, adding in RetroSynth, Schrödinger’s AI-driven synthesis planning platform.
RetroSynth is able to rapidly evaluate synthetic feasibility and optimize route selection. It integrates real-time intelligence across billions of building blocks, the company says.
Meanwhile, Bunsen’s optimization, Schrödinger says, already successfully executes its validated, physics-based computational platform.
Chief among platform capabilities: running complex molecular discovery workflows, then interpreting the results.
“AI has become a key enabler for our scientists,” Stephen Johnson, BMS Vice President, Computational Sciences, said. “[It allows] them to scale their creativity and scientific expertise across our research organization. Bunsen is another capability we are adding to that toolkit. [It lets] our scientists think differently about how physics-based tools can be used to navigate molecular design space and accelerate discovery.”
“BMS is a long-standing customer and collaborator,” Robert Abel, Chief Scientific Officer, Platform, Schrödinger, said. “They have been an industry leader in integrating computation into drug discovery. We are thrilled they are deploying Bunsen at a large scale. Adopting Bunsen and our computational platform at scale empowers a broader group of scientists to embrace a predict-first computational approach.”
